On Monday night Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the defending NBA champions Denver Nuggets by 106-80. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns gave the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead in the semi-final. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns both scored 27 points each to get the upper hand in the semi-finals.

While for Denver Nuggets Aaron Gordon got 20 points and his teammate Nikola Jokic scored 16 points and 16 rebounds and coming off the bench Justin Holiday scored 13 points.

However, Minnesota Timberwolves stunned Denver Nuggets with body blow after body hit, despite their starting centre, Rudy Gobert, was back home in Minneapolis on Sunday to witness his son's birth. They didn't need Gobert's shot-blocking skills or rim protection on this night to maintain their dominance against the Nuggets at Ball Arena, where Denver was 36-8 before losing back-to-back games to Minnesota.

During the Timberwolves' 43-18 first-half dominance — Anthony Edwards was on the bench for much of it — the Nuggets were so upset that Malone stormed out onto the floor and got in official Marc Davis' face for a lengthy blowup during a timeout, avoiding a technical.

Injuries worry for Denver Nuggets

With Minnesota Timberwolves up 95-70 and Edwards at the free throw line, MVP shouts erupted for the rising Minnesota star. Home supporters began to pour out of Ball Arena. With barely three minutes remaining and the Timberwolves up 99-75, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone cleared his bench.

Jokic had only eight points before halftime, while Jamal Murray, who was still dealing with a tight left calf, had only two in the first half, their lowest offensive production in a half this season. If Murray does not heal significantly from his calf injury by Friday's Game 3, Denver will have to make a choice.

Denver's 26-point halftime deficit was the greatest in a home playoff game in team history, as they trailed 61-35. The Wolves led 82-60 after three quarters and dominated the rest of the game.
