Rudy Gobert is on his way to winning another NBA 'Defensive Player of the Year' award as he is having an excellent season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, while he was able to achieve individual success, he has yet to win an NBA championship, and he has had disagreements with several rival players. One among them is Draymond Green.

During an interview with ESPN, Rudy Gobert said, “In their eyes, I’m more like the odd guy from France that’s winning a lot of awards, and it can bother people. I impact the games in a very unique way. It’s maybe not as cool or not as flashy as some other guys, so it’s sometimes harder for them to respect that. I just think I’m just mostly misunderstood. I think I trigger a lot of these guys.”

During the poll conducted by Athletic this week, Rudy Gobert was elected as the League's most overrated player. The poll got votes from 142 players, representing roughly one-third of the league. Despite being voted the most overrated player; the Timberwolves' big man is a strong favourite to earn his fourth DPOY title.

Some players believe he's not the League's top defender

Everyone from Shaq to Draymond Green has said something negative about Gobert. Previously, the centre let outside noise impact him, but now he sees criticism as 'a form of respect.' The Frenchman would want to quiet all of his critics and rivals by winning his first NBA title with the Timberwolves.

From 2018 to 2021, Gobert earned three Defensive Player of the Year awards. He's a three-time All-Star, yet none of the NBA players polled believe he's the league's top defender.

Gobert has been averaging 14 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game this season. Gobert has also averaged the second-highest career offensive rating (114.6) and is tied for the second-best career defensive rating (106.6).
