DC and GT faced off each other in a high-scoring thriller in the 40th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024. Both teams played this match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The visiting skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and asked DC to bat first.

Batting first, the hosts posted a total of 224 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Star all-rounder Axar Patel came to bat at number 3 and lived up to the expectations of his captain and the team management. Axar smashed 66 runs off just 43 balls, with 5 fours and 4 sixes.

What went on to become the highlight of DC innings was the high-calibre knock played by the skipper Rishabh Pant; he played a swashbuckling unbeaten knock of 88 runs off just 43 balls, with 5 fours 8 massive sixes. Around the end of the innings, the in-form Tristan Stubbs scored quick and unbeaten 26 runs off just 7 balls, with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

On the back of these knocks, DC posted a total of 224 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the first innings. Sandeep Warrier still managed to contain runs for GT as he conceded only 15 runs in his 3 overs and scalped 3 wickets, alongside 1 wicket picked by Noor Ahmed.

DC held nerves in the thrilling last-ball defence of their total 

While chasing the target, the GT batters showed brilliant intent after an early blow of skipper Gill’s dismissal at the team’s score of 13 runs in the second over. Later, the star and in-form number 3 batter Sai Sudharsan smashed 65 runs off just 39 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Besides him, the veteran middle-order batter David Miller also scored 55 runs off just 23 balls, with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Eventually, the star Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan tried his best to finish the game for the visitors GT. But his efforts went in vain as GT couldn’t cross the line and fell 5 runs short to target.

Eventually, DC won this game by 4 runs on the last ball of the match to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the ‘Player of the Match award for his amazing batting and sensational wicketkeeping throughout the match for the hosts.
