Former Australia batter Meg Lanning abruptly retired from International cricket in November 2023. The decision was shocking as she was a terrific batter who was just 31 years old and had a long career ahead. However, she revealed the real reasons behind her early retirement from International cricket. However, she will continue to play in the T20 leagues and was the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the WPL 2024.

"I was over-exercising and under-fuelling. I got to the point where I was doing about 85-90km a week. I was in denial. It became a bit of an ‘I am going to show you’ sort of thing. It sort of just spiralled. I was not in a place to be able to go on tour and play cricket and give the commitment levels required for that (2023) Ashes series mentally and physically," said Lanning.

Moreover, she was battling a severe health issue which she hasn't revealed yet. However, she spoke about the battle she had to fight because of her health which forced her to retire early. She also opened up about how her teammates noticed the change in her, but they were clueless as to what was going on at that time.

'I naturally would enjoy spending time by myself...' - Meg Lanning talks about her life pre-retirement life

Former Australia skipper Meg Lanning talked about her pre-retirement life when she was suffering from an undisclosed disease. She spoke about how her personal life was impacting her social life and was unable to do anything about it.

"I naturally would enjoy spending time by myself. I'm totally fine with that. But there would be very few people who I would want to engage with. I would get really snappy, real moody if anyone asked anything. I became a bit of a different person. Pretty hard to be around, I would say," said Lanning.
