INDW vs BANW: India whitewash Bangaldesh by 5-0 in T20I Series

India women’s team under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur completely outplayed the Bangladesh women’s team in the five-match T20I series at their home ground in Sylhet. The women in blue clinched the series by a margin of 5-0, registering a 21-run win in the fifth and last match of the series.

Earlier in the four matches of the series, India won the first match by 44 runs followed by a 19-run win in the second T20I by the DLS method. Later in the third and fourth match, Harmanpreet Kaur & co. won by 7 wickets and 56 runs (DLS method), respectively.

Speaking of the fifth and last match of the series, the visiting skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, India posted a total of 156 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Star opener Smriti Mandhana and number 3 batter Dayalan Hemalatha scored 33 and 37 runs, respectively followed by 30 and 28 runs scored by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh.

Rabeya Khan and Nahida Akter scalped 2 wickets each for Bangladesh in the first innings, alongside one wicket bagged by Sultana Khatun.

While chasing the target, the hosts Bangladesh were restricted to a total of 135 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the entire 20 overs and lost the match by 21 runs.

Star India spinner Radha Yadav bowled brilliantly and scalped 3 wickets just at the cost of 24 runs in her quota of 4 overs. She also won the ‘Player of the Match award, alongside winning the ‘Player of the Series award for her excellent performance throughout the series, scalping 10 wickets.

Notably, the upcoming women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in October is also scheduled to be played in Bangladesh, where India are placed with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Qualifier 2 and the defending champions Australia in Group A. The women in blue will start their campaign with the first match against New Zealand women on October 4, 2024.
