LSG continued their head-to-head dominance against the five-time champion CSK by defeating them in the 39th match of the IPL 2024. LSG won this crucial encounter by a good margin of 6 wickets, with 3 balls to spare. LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.

Batting first, CSK lost their first wicket early at the score of 4 runs in the first over. Later, the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a crucial century, scoring 108 runs off just 60 balls. He also stitched an all-important partnership of 104 runs for the fourth wicket with Shivam Dube.

The star batting all-rounder Shivam Dube also smashed 66 runs off just 27 balls, with 3 fours and 7 sixes. These knocks helped CSK to post a total of 210 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Matt Henry, Mohsin Khan, and Yash Thakur scalped 1 wicket each for LSG in the first innings.

Marcus Stoinis crushes the hopes of the hosts

While chasing the target, LSG were in a struggle when they lost the first wicket in quick succession; first without any run and second on the score of 33 runs in 4.4 overs. Then came an unbelievable and outstanding knock from the star number 3 batter Marcus Stoinis, who smashed 124 runs off just 63 balls, with 13 fours and 6 sixes.

Later, Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda also scored 34 and 17 runs off just 15 and 6 balls, respectively. On the back of these knocks, the visitors comfortably managed to cross the winning line in 19.3 overs, scoring 213 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets and won the match by a good margin of 6 wickets.

Matheesha Pathirana scalped 2 wickets for CSK, alongside one wicket each bagged by Deepak Chahar and Mustafizur Rahman in their failed defence of the total of 210 runs.
