Mumbai Indians (MI) won their third game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in dramatic fashion by 8 runs to move to 7th in the table. The win came after a great fight from the Punjab Kings (PBKS) lower order namely Ashutosh Sharma and Harpreet Brar as the two batters dented the MI bowlers.

At one stage PBKS were struggling at 111/7 when Shashank Singh fell to Jasprit Bumrah caught by Tilak Varma. But a 57-run stand for the 8th wicket kept the hopes alive for the PBKS team as they were looking to win the game against all odds.

Mumbai Indians batting first had scored 192 runs from their 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was the best batter with 78 runs while Rohit Sharma (36) and Tilak Varma (34*) were the other contributors. Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee were the main wicket takers with 3 scalps apiece.

Here are the top 5 worst performers of the match:

5. Arshdeep Singh – 0/35 from 3 overs

85

In a key game for his team, Arshdeep Singh was supposed to be the leader of the pack with the ball. Instead, the left-arm pacer was carted for 35 runs from 3 overs as Rohit Sharma in particular took a liking to his bowling and hit for boundaries.

4. Liam Livingstone – 0/16 from 2 overs and 1 run from 2 balls

89

English all-rounder Liam Livingstone had a day to forget as he neither managed to pick a wicket nor scored any runs. Livingstone was hit for 16 runs from his two overs and scored just 1 run before being sent back to the hut. Gerald Coetzee hurried him for pace and the English batter offered a simple return catch to the young pacer.

3. Romario Shepherd – 1 run off 2 balls and 0/20 from two overs

86

After a bright start to his career with the Mumbai Indians, Romario Shepherd has seen his performances dwindle. On Wednesday the West Indian could score only one run from two balls as he came out to bat only in the final over. With the ball, he was yet again expensive as Ashutosh Sharma carted him to all parts of the ground.

2. Hardik Pandya – 10 runs from 6 balls and 1/33 from four overs

87

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya had yet another forgettable game with the bat and ball. The 30-year-old could conjure only 10 runs on the board before falling to Harshal Patel. His bowling too suffered as he was hit for runs by the PBKS Batters before he dismissed Harpreet Brar in the 19th over.

1. Akash Madhwal – 1/46 from 3.1 overs

88

After his amazing showing in IPL 2023, Akash Madhwal has seen his graph take a downward plunge. The 30-year-old pacer was hit for 24 runs in his 3rd over with both Ashutosh Sharma and Harpreet Brar hitting him for sixes. His only big moment came when he had got the wicket of Jitesh Sharma LBW for 9.
