Rajasthan Royals flexed their muscles to defeat Mumbai Indians to win their 7th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The win also meant that the men in pink also kept their spot at the top of the table safe with this clinical performance.

Batting first Mumbai Indians scored 179 runs on the board with Tilak Varma top-scoring with 65. Sandeep Sharma was the best bowler as he got his first fifer in IPL cricket to dent the MI batting unit.

Chasing 180 to win, Rajasthan Royals saw Yashasvi Jaiswal regain his lost form at the most critical phase of the tournament. The loss now* means that Mumbai Indians have to win their remaining games to have any chance for qualification.

5. Nehal Wadhera – 49 runs from 24 balls

In his very first appearance for the season, Nehal Wadhera made an immediate impact. The 23-year-old scored 49 runs from just 24 balls with 3 fours and four huge hits into the stand. Nehal Wadhera also added 99 runs for the fifth wicket with Tilak Varma just when Mumbai Indians seemed in trouble.

4. Sanju Samson – 38* off 28 balls

After the fall of Jos Buttler, it seemed that Mumbai Indians had found a new wind. Sanju Samson though took on the Mumbai Indians bowlers and didn’t get the pressure get to his team. The Rajasthan Royals has been having a great season at the number three spot and is making himself a favourite for the Indian team selection for the T20I World Cup.

With his team yet again facing a bad start, it was left to Tilak Varma yet to do the magic with the bat. The 22-year-old rose to the occasion and scored his fifth IPL fifty with five hits to the fence and three over the ropes.

The veteran pacer had missed a few games owing to injury and Sandeep Sharma was got into the team on Monday. The right-arm pacer got the wickets of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. Bowling the last over of the innings, Sandeep Sharma first dismissed Tilak Varma and then got Gerald Coetzee the very next ball. The 5th wicket came in the form of Tim David who was caught by Riyan Parag for 3 runs.

Rajasthan Royals and Indian Cricket fans were happy to see Yashasvi Jaiswal back in form. The left-handed batter scored his second IPL ton to help his side win the game and extend their lead at the top of the table.  It was also a huge relief for the batter who has been facing criticism for lack of runs during the ongoing IPL 2024 season.
