Here are the top five lowest scores in the powerplay overs during this season of IPL 2024.

This year the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen tall run-scoring with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) twice creating records. Most of the matches this year have seen the power-play overs yielding lots of runs as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hold the best score in the first six overs. 

It hasn’t been all gloomy for the bowlers as many matches have witnessed the run-scoring get difficult. During the Gujarat Titans vs Delhi Capitals game on Wednesday, the visitors showed their ruthless side to dent the Titans in front of their home fans. 

With the pitches getting slower and slower as the tournament progresses batting is set to become more difficult. The bowlers will hence have a larger say as the IPL 2024 heads into the second half of the season.

Here are the top five lowest scores in Powerplay overs during IPL 2024: 

5. Punjab Kings 38/1 vs Rajasthan Royals – Mullanpur

Rajasthan Royals bowlers kept a tight leash on the home team as the Punjab Kings batters struggled in the first six overs. Atharva Taide failed to get going as each and every Rajasthan Royals made sure they didn’t let the PBKS batters off the hook. With just 38/1 from 6, Punjab Kings recorded one of the lowest powerplay scores in the IPL 2024 tournament. 

4. Chennai Super Kings 32/2 vs Delhi Capitals – Visakhapatnam 

Delhi Capitals who were struggling to get going in their IPL 2024 campaign faced a red-hot Chennai Super Kings. The first six overs from the Delhi Capitals bowlers yielded just 32 runs for the loss of 2 wickets for the defending champions. Khaleel Ahmed got the scalp of Ruturaj Gaikwad and also got the big wicket of Rachin Ravindra. 

3. Rajasthan Royals 31/2 vs Delhi Capitals – Jaipur 

Surprisingly Delhi Capitals make their presence felt with the ball yet again. Rajasthan Royals scored just 31/2 from their powerplay overs to record one of the lowest powerplay scores in IPL 2024. Mukesh Kumar began by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for five before Khaleel Ahmed had Sanju Samson cant by Pant for 15. 

2. Gujarat Titans 30/4 vs Delhi Capitals – Ahmedabad 

Rishabh Pant’s decision to bowl first paid rich dividends as his bowlers totally destroyed the Gujarat Titans batters. Ishant Sharma got two wickets while Mukesh Kumar got the wicket of Saha to dent the home side. Sai Sudharsan fell to a brilliant run-out by Sumit Kumar. The former IPL winner had recorded the second-lowest powerplay score in IPL 2024. 

1. Punjab Kings 27/3 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – Mullanpur 

Needing 183 to win the game, Punjab Kings were rocked in the first six overs of their chase. The 27/3 from six is the lowest powerplay score during this season of IPL 2024. Pat Cummins began by dismissing Jonny Bairstow for a duck. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then got the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh for 4 before Dhawan was out stumped for 14 by Klaasen off Kumar.
