IPL 2024: Top 3 key things PBKS needs to do right to return to winning ways

Punjab Kings' (PBKS) performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been quite average as they are in the eighth position with two wins out of six matches. This is not the kind of IPL they wanted for themselves. However, they still have a chance to bounce back and secure a place in the playoffs. They still have eight games in their hands and win six out of them to get a place in the knockoffs. It might sound impossible, but if the management makes certain changes in the team, they might stand a chance to qualify. 

Let's check out the three key changes the PBKS team needs to make ahead of their clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI):

1. Powerplay utilisation

Punjab Kings' are one of those teams who haven't used the powerplay yet. Considering the importance of powerplays, PBKS need to start utilising them if they want to get to a good total. A good score on the board while defending helps a lot while a great start is needed while chasing. Hence, PBKS' first job will be to make proper use of the powerplays. 

2. Death over bowling 

Death over bowling is another matter of concern for the PBKS team. They have a lot of good bowlers, however, they fail to provide the performance which is expected of them. Hence, in the death overs, the bowlers leak a lot of runs which benefits the opposition. The bowlers should manage the pressure during the death overs which will be beneficial for the team. 

3. PBKS’s top order needs to step up

The main reason behind PBKS' failure this season is the failure of the top order. They haven't shown a great performance till now. The constant change in the top order makes the batting lineup weaker. Players need to step up and play well and get a good start for the team so that they can win the match against MI.
