The Indian Premier League (IPL) started in 2008. The idea came into existence after the India team won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Since the IPL started in 2008 the tournament has taken a big turn in the cricket world. The IPL has lots of glamour, stardom, money etc taking place in the full tournament. The IPL started with 8 teams, but in 2022 total of 10 teams took part over 2 months to win the trophy. Till now only two teams have managed to win the IPL trophy 5 times each.

Since its first edition, many young and talented players have made their name big. The IPL has been their platform to show their skills to the world. While some players have been part of the IPL since its start some have made their name recently. 

Let us take a look at five cricketers who have participated in all IPL editions from 2008 to 2024:

5. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan

India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2008. In 2008 he was picked by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). In the first season, he played 14 matches and scored 340 runs with an average of 37.77. In the 2022 IPL auction, Punjab Kings picked Shikhar Dhawan for Rs. 8.25. Punjab Kings has made him the captain. He now leads the Punjab Kings in IPL 2024. Shikhar Dhawan has played for 6 teams in IPL. Overall, Shikhar Dhawan has scored 6684 runs and has two centuries in the IPL.

4. Dinesh Karthik

Since the start of IPL in 2008 Dinesh Karthik has been part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) until 2010. In his debut season, he scored 145 runs in 13 IPL matches. In 2022 he was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 5.50 crores. In IPL 2024 he is still part of RCB. Till now he has scored 4582 runs from 244 IPL matches.

3. Rohit Sharma

Former Mumbai Indian captain Rohit Sharma started his IPL journey with Deccan Chargers in 2008. He was part of the team for three seasons. In 2009 he IPL with Deccan Chargers. In 2011 he was picked by Mumbai Indians and in 2013 he was named as captain of the team. As a captain of Mumbai Indians, he won five IPL trophies. Since then, Rohit Sharma has scored 6254 runs from 244 IPL matches.

2. Virat Kohli

Former India captain Virat Kohli is the only player to play for only one team in IPL. Since the first edition of IPL 2008, Virat Kohli was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 12 lakhs. In 2013 he was made captain of the team. The IPL 2016 season was peaked season for Virat Kohli as he scored 973 runs and hit 4 centuries in the IPL. In that season RCB went to the final but lost the final match to Sunrises Hyderabad. In 2021 he left the captaincy role of RCB. So far Virat Kohli has played 239 matches and scored 7361 runs which includes seven centuries.

In the first edition of IPL 2008 former India captain MS Dhoni was picked by Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 6 crores and was the most expensive player at that time. In 2010 he led Chennai Super Kings to their first title win in IPL 2010. In 2016 and 2017 MS Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiant as CSK was suspended for two seasons. The 2018 season was a comeback season for the team as they won their third title. Chennai Super Kings has won five IPL titles under MS Dhoni's captaincy. In IPL 2024 he plays under Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy. Till now MS Dhoni has played 252 IPL matches and scored 5082 runs with an average of 38.79.
