The battle to secure a berth in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is getting intense as there are a lot of star performers in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024. There have been more than one or two contenders for every spot in the squad for the upcoming prestigious cricket biennial in the USA and West Indies in June.

Apart from the other spots, there is going to be an intense battle for one spot in the India squad which has three contestants, namely the star DC all-rounder Axar Patel, RR pacer Avesh Khan and LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi.

So, it is going to be a big concern for the selectors to make the right choice for this spot from these 3 given names.

With said that, it is important to analyse the respective individual performances of all the 3 players which they have come up with in the ongoing Indian Premier League for their respective teams.

Here’s a look at the trio’s performances in IPL 2024:

Speaking of Avesh Khan’s bowling outings in the current IPL 2024, he has scalped 8 wickets in 8 matches he has played so far, with an economy rate of 9.41 and a strike rate of 23.2. Besides that, he has a bowling average of 36.4.

LSG’s star spinner Ravi Bishnoi hasn’t performed expectedly in the ongoing IPL 2024; he has scalped only 5 wickets in 8 matches he played so far in the tournament. Bishnoi also has quite a bit expensive bowling average of 41.8, alongside an economy rate of 8.47 and a strike rate of 29.6.

Axar Patel looks stronger in contention for the WC spot

Now, if it’s about discussing Axar Patel, he has been quite impactful while playing for DC in the ongoing IPL 2024; Axar has scalped 7 wickets with the ball in 9 matches, with an average of 31.28 and an economy rate of 7.06, alongside strike rate of 26.5.

Other than his bowling, Axar has also been quite effective with the bat as he has scored 123 runs in 9 matches with an average of 24.60 while coming to bat at different batting positions. He also has a blistering half-century to his name, which he scored in a winning cause against Gujarat Titans.

So, it can be concluded with the current performances that Axar Patel could be the choice of selectors to go ahead with, for this spot in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The reason behind his selection could be his competence to perform both with the bat and the ball in any crucial situation.

Why Axar Patel is justified in India's T20 WC 2024 squad:

According to the reports, India might go out with 4 out-and-out bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, including the spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. But having Axar Patel in the squad will bring more than one benefit for the men in blue.

Axar Patel's addition will add an extra batting option in the lower middle order; on a few occasions, he might also be brought up as a pinch hitter in the top middle order in crucial matches.

On the other hand, he will also give an efficient bowling option to bowl when the main bowlers could be having a tough time. So, Axar Patel's inclusion in the squad looks more justifiable in the squad in comparison to Avesh Khan and Axar Bishnoi.
