The T20 World Cup 2024 is down the corner and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are about to release the squad for the tournament. The Board was waiting to see the performance and form of the players during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 before taking any decision. In the IPL 2024, many young players have performed well and showed their worth.
If we talk about wicketkeepers, there are several options like Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul who are up for a fight for a place in the World Cup squad. However, as per reports, Sanju Samson is the selectors' first choice for the wicketkeeper's spot in the tournament. Even though nothing has been made official yet, Samson's class performance in the IPL 2024 might earn him a permanent place in the World Cup squad.
"The IPL, though, has served to prove the fitness of Rishabh Pant, who had been out of cricket since his horrific car accident in December 2022. Sanju Samson, however, is likely to be the first-choice wicketkeeper, as India needs a spin-hitter to pair with their top three, who tend to get stuck against spin. Also, Jitesh Sharma's form hasn't been great, and KL Rahul has been batting at the top of the order, which is crowded already," said the report.

While captaining the Rajasthan Royals side, Sanju Samson has evolved a lot. This season, he is seen scoring runs and taking up responsibilities. Whenever the team fails to perform, he has proved to be a better batter and has scored an ample amount of runs which has helped RR clinch victory over some tough teams in the IPL 2024.
If we talk about Samson's score, in nine matches he has scored 385 runs at an average of 77.00. He is also present in the Orange Cap list and will be looking to win it once. The way he has been performing this season, it seems like he is mentally prepared to play the T20 World Cup for India as a wicketkeeper. Nevertheless, we can wait for the squad to be announced to see the additions to it.
