'This is Cinema' - Fans thrilled as RR beat KKR by narrow margin of 2 wickets in last ball IPL 2024 thriller

RR defeated the hosts KKR at their home ground in Kolkata by a narrow margin of 2 wickets in the 31st game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024.

The two table toppers in the ongoing IPL 2024, RR and KKR lived up to the expectations of the fans and produced a classic last-ball thriller while taking on each other on Tuesday. Both teams locked horns in the 31st match of the current edition of the tournament. The match was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Both teams played brilliantly and happened to give a high-scoring thriller for the fans, with RR getting over the winning line on the last ball of the match. The visiting skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first.

Batting first, KKR posted a big total of 223 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The star in-form opener Sunil Narine smashed a swashbuckling century, scoring 109 runs off just 56 balls, with 13 fours and 6 sixes. Besides him, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh also scored 30 and 20 runs, respectively.

Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Sen scalped 2 wickets each for KKR, alongside one wicket each bagged by Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Jos Buttler steers ‘RR’ ship safely to harbour

While chasing the target, RR didn’t have an expected start as they lost their young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal just at the team’s score of 22 runs in 1.5 overs as he failed to capitalize on his quick start.

Later, the veteran opener Jos Buttler held the one end strongly and scored a match-defining century for RR amidst a fall of wickets at the regular intervals. Buttler scored an unbeaten century, hitting 107 runs off just 60 balls, with 9 fours and 6 sixes. Apart from him, Riyan Parag and Rovman Powell also contributed with the crucial 34 and 26 runs, respectively.

Eventually, the visitors held their nerves and won the match by a narrow margin of 2 wickets by crossing the winning line on the last ball of the match.
