A huge fine of 50% on the match fees is levied on Virat Kohli after he argues with the umpires during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 36th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This whole incident took place in the 2nd over of the game while Virat was looking good and was striking the ball well. However, on a bouncer by Harshit Rana Virat was taken aback and played the ball towards the bowler.

Post that he was declared out but was convinced that it was a no-ball. But the 3rd umpire declared it as a wicket since Virat was outside the batting crease. After that, he went and fought with the umpire and hence breached the IPL Code of Conduct.

"Kohli committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," said the statement released by IPL.

It was not a great day for RCB as Faf du Plessis was also fined 20% of the match fees due to a slow over-rate. A total of 12 lakhs will be deducted from his match fee against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

KKR clinch victory over RCB by 1 run

In a classic last-ball thriller, RCB lost the match by just 1 run. As they were chasing a target of 223 runs, the openers gave a great start but couldn't convert it Virat Kohli was dismissed early and Faf du Plessis lost his wicket after an over or so. Later on, Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks were striking the ball well. Both the batters scored half-centuries which put the team back in the driver's sport.

However, after losing both batters, RCB seemed kind of lost. But the lower-middle order batters took the matter into their own hands and started scoring in boundaries. Karn Sharma in the last over scored three magnificent sixes to Mitchell Starc but lost his wicket and hence, RCB lost the match just by one run. This match is going to hurt the fans for a while as it was a must-win game for RCB.
