Mumbai Indians travelled to Mullanpur to take on home team Punjab Kings in a crucial game on Wednesday. The former IPL winners have so far won just two games and lost four to find themselves in the bottom three position of the table.

Rohit Sharma who had scored a century in the last game was given out LBW when Harshal Patel foxed him with a slower ball. Umpire Vineet Kulkarni gave it out and the former MI skipper decided to go for the review. The DRS showed that the ball was missing the stumps to help MI fans heave a sigh of relief. Hardik Pandya was happy with the call as he was spotted with a happy look on his face in the dugout.

Punjab Kings won the toss and didn’t hesitate to bowl first to make use of the better conditions while chasing. English batter Jonny Bairstow was rested for the game as Rilee Rossouw came in for him. Shikhar Dhawan who had missed the last game due to fitness issues had to miss a second game in the row as Sam Curran continued as the captain.

Mumbai Indians start well in crunch game –

Kagiso Rabada got into the act very early as he had the big wicket of Ishan Kishan for 8. Mumbai Indians then saw Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav take charge to take the attack to the PBKS bowlers. The two batters have been in decent touch with the bat for Mumbai Indians this year.

Suryakumar Yadav reached his fifty from 34 balls to register second half-century for the season. Rohit Sharma who had scored a ton in the last game played a few delightful shots including a crunchy pull-shot against Arshdeep Singh to leave the crowd amazed.

It is an important game for the home team as well after their loss to Rajasthan Royals in the previous game. Both teams need the two points to keep in touch with the top half of the IPL table as the season heads to the halfway stage.

After this game, Punjab Kings will host the Gujarat Titans on Sunday as the Mumbai Indians will travel to Jaipur next. The 8th game for the men in blue and gold will be against the top-of-the-table Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.
