Giancarlo Esposito has been regarded as one of the most iconic actors in the industry. His role as Gus Fring has been one of the best to date as he received multiple nominations and awards for that. However, speaking about that time Esposito says that he thought of arranging his murder as he was very much depressed.

He revealed all these things on a recent episode of SiriusXM’s “Jim & Sam” show while promoting his new AMC drama series 'Parish'. Around 2008, the actor contemplated his circumstances, a pivotal moment that preceded the transformative shift in his career catalyzed by "Breaking Bad.This breakthrough not only rescued him from near bankruptcy but also paved the way for significant roles in "The Mandalorian," "The Boys, and other notable projects.

While answering the question about his financial condition in 2008 the actor said, “My way out in my brain was: ‘Hey, do you get life insurance if someone commits suicide? Do they get the bread?’ My wife had no idea why I was asking this stuff. I started scheming.”

“If I got somebody to knock me off, death by misadventure, [my kids] would get the insurance. I had four kids. I wanted them to have a life. It was a hard moment in time. I thought of self-annihilation so they could survive. That’s how low I was.”

That’s not a viable option”, says Giancarlo Esposito

Further speaking about it Giancarlo Esposito said he had a self-realization that it couldn’t be a viable option as he would not be available for his kids. “That was the first inkling that there was a way out, but I wouldn’t be here to be available to my kids,” Esposito added.

“Then I started to think that’s not viable because the pain I would cause them would be lifelong, and there’d be lifelong trauma that would just extend the generational trauma I’m trying to move away from. The light at the end of the tunnel wasBreaking Bad’”, he further added.

Esposito portrayed Gus Fring across 26 episodes of "Breaking Badand revisited the character in the prequel series "Better Call Saulfor 34 episodes.
