Three years after an involuntary man slaughtering of a cinematographer on sets of Alec Baldwin's movie "Rust" a former armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has been sentenced. After being declared convicted by a district judge on March 6, Hannah was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment on April 15 in Mexico.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer delivered the sentencing on Monday following a jury's verdict of guilty. The jury found Hannah for involuntary manslaughter against the 27-year-old. The tragic incident occurred on October 21, 2021, when Alec Baldwin fired a gun containing a live bullet.

It fatally shoots the cinematographer on set. Hannah was responsible for managing the firearms during the film production. Hannah received the maximum sentence of 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter.

Before announcing the sentence, Judge Sommer remarked, "Despite the extensive attention and discussions over the past two years, we successfully assembled a jury of her peers who committed to impartially reviewing the evidence presented in court to determine the facts and uphold the law." She continued, "They concluded that Ms. Gutierrez is guilty of involuntary manslaughter."

‘You took things lightly’, says Judge Sommer

The judge also criticized Hannah for not taking her offence seriously, mentioning that during jailhouse calls, she expressed concern about how it might affect her modelling career. As the Rust armourer cried after being sentenced, Sommer remarked, "I consider your actions to be a grave, violent offence. It was carried out in a physically violent manner.”

“A fatal gunshot occurred due to your recklessness, despite knowing that your actions were likely to cause serious harm." The jury reached their decision after a two-week trial, during which they heard testimony from weapons experts, crew members, and detectives.

"You were responsible for ensuring the safety of the weapons, acting as a barrier between a safe weapon and one that could cause harm. You alone transformed a safe weapon into a deadly one. If not for you, Mrs Hutchins would still be alive, a husband would still have his partner, and a little boy would still have his mother. Please take her," Sommer concluded.
