Embracer Group is one of the biggest names in the gaming industry, in recent years has gained a bad reputation among gamers for multiple studio closures and lay-offs. The latest announcement from the company reveals that Embracer Group will be splitting into three separate companies.

Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends and Asmodee Group. All of these entities will be listed as a separate company on Nasdasq Stockholm and take different divisions that they plan on focusing on while moving forward.

What roles each company are taking?

Embracer Group was a powerhouse when it came to game studios. It featured multiple big and popular names in the gaming industry. Sadly, a few of them saw an end during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the company has decided to separate these studios, let's check what roles each of them will be playing.

  • Coffee Stain & Friends

Coffee Stain is a very popular publisher of indie games and AA games. Developers for games like Deep Rock Galactic, Valhiem, Little Nightmares, Titan Quest and many more are under this name. Coffee Stain & Friends can be considered as the Indie publisher and developer company coming from Embracer Split.

  • Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends

As the name, suggests, Middle-earth will be taking the AAA gaming division with them to create a new company and is dubbed as a 'creative powerhouse in AAA game development and publishing for PC and console'. AAA studios with game franchises like Tom Raider, Lord of the Rings, Metro, Kingdom Come Deliverance and many more will be a part of this.

  • Asmodee Group

Asmodee will be focusing on the top of the table and card games, and while it may not sound as interesting, the company will have over 20 studios under it. Table-top and card games are also quite popular among gamers.

On paper, this comes with a good change, with each company focusing on their own thing. However, it all comes down to management and only time will tell if these three will gain respect from gamers or will go down the same path as Embracer Group.
