Atletico Madrid hosted Copa del Rey champions Athletic Bilbao at the Wanda Metropolitano. The home side have a controlled domination over the Spanish champions as they won the game 3-1. Rodrigo de Paul and Angel Correa were the two goal scorers for the side and one was goal own goal by Unai Simon and for Bilbao Nico Williams scored. The win helped a significant spot in the race to secure Champions League football for the next season.

However, during the game, something unusual happened when Bilbao striker Williams faced racial abuse from the fans and spoke with the referee after hearing the alleged abuse when he was nearing to take a corner in the first half and the match was paused for some time as supporters were warned from the match officials. This is not the first time that any player has faced a racist comment on the pitch by the fans.

However, it did not much affect the Spanish winger as he equalised short ahead of the first half and celebrated by tapping his arm, indicating the colour of his skin. In recent years, Spanish football has seen a surge in racist events, with many targeting Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior. The league must take action against such incidents and suspend the fans from the ground for passing such comments.

There weren't many of them: Nico Williams

Williams told DAZN, "I went to take the corner and I heard monkey noises. There weren't many of them. There are stupid people everywhere... I hope this changes bit by bit. It was with a bit of anger, it's not normal to be insulted for the colour of your skin." After the game, Koke supported Williams and strength.

The Atletico captain said, "In our society, there is no place for people who insult like that. Atletico Madrid and all our fans are in favour of Nico and against these situations, which should not happen in a football stadium or society. It can't happen in the year we're in or the society we're in."
