After Queens Park Rangers crushed Leeds United, Leicester City received a promotion to the Premier League. With one game remaining, Daniel Farke's team is still four points below EFL Championship toppers Leicester following their 4-0 loss at Loftus Road.

The Foxes are still on course to earn 100 points and return to the top division after being relegated the previous campaign. Now, if third-place Ipswich lose at Hull City on Saturday, Leicester can win the Championship title at Preston on Monday. If Ipswich can gain five points from the remaining three games, they will be joining Leicester in the English Premier League the following season

.

Now for Leeds United, the fate no longer relies in their own hands and their promotion depends on other results. They would need Leeds United to lose points in their final three games to stand chance to go to the English Premier League.

Earlier in the season, Leicester City was winning their fight to get back into the Premier League. However, they overcame a significant loss of form towards the end to cross the finish line.

After crushing Southampton 5-0 on Tuesday, the team that had appeared to be lagging behind for automatic promotion now had back-to-back victories. Midway through February, Leicester led by 12 points at the top and held a 14-point lead over third place, making the title and return to the top division look certain.

How did Leicester City almost bottle promotion to the Premier League?

With four losses and only one victory from six games including a crushing setback at Leeds, who at the beginning of January trailed Leicester by 17 points. It became a four-way race for a top-two finish, with Southampton, Ipswich, and the Whites the other contenders.

Leicester had been in the lead for 176 days, all but two of which had passed from 23 September until 17 March. By the end of March, Leeds had taken their places, and Ipswich had overtaken them both, knocking Leicester from the automatic promotion slots. However, while Leicester stumbled, teams around them also gave away big points, giving the Foxes an opportunity to rally and secure their return to the top flight.
