The clay season is still on and there are still a lot of tournaments that will take place before the eventual French Open next month. The players will now look forward to the upcoming Madrid Open which is another big tournament to keep an eye on. The tournament will begin on the 23rd of April with the Qualifiers whereas the main draw will begin on the 26th where all the top players will be featured. It will be interesting to see what this tournament will have in store for us.

The winner of last season was the young and dominating Carlos Alcaraz who won his second consecutive title. The winner in women's singles was Aryna Sabalenka who won the title after beating Iga Swiatek in the finals. This is one of the biggest ATP/WTA 1000 tournaments which every player will have their eyes on to get higher in the rankings by winning the tournament this season.

The prize money, players and their motivations

This tournament will once again feature some of the top players in the WTA and ATP. It has been made clear that Rafael Nadal will be featuring in the tournament and will want to come back after a horrid run at the Barcelona Open. Speaking of horrid runs this has also been an underwhelming season for Novak Djokovic who is yet to win a single title this season. There is a need for the world's best to announce himself on the stage. There are still some players who will be going with some confidence with Carlos Alacaraz who will look to defend his crown and Jannick Sinner who has been in incredible form.

On the WTA side, the big three will be the favourites to win with Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek having a great run this season. Aryna Sabalenka on the other might have not won a lot of titles after the Australian Open, but will still look to defend her crown and look for her first win in the current clay season. The winners of both singles categories will be making €963,225 whereas the runner up will get €512,260+ in the tournament. Overall we are up for a cracking contest in the upcoming tournament.
