The Barcelona Open has had the same amount of hype as the Monte Carlo Masters this season. After all, there are a lot of upcoming talented players that are featuring in this tournament. The likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud and Rafael Nadal will be one of the favourites to win the whole tournament. The fans will be looking forward to the performances of these great talents who will be going into the tournament with a lot of confidence.

One of the players who was set to make a comeback in this season is 26-year-old number 8 ranked player Andrey Rublev. The Russian was set to make a statement after a disappointing Monte Carlo Masters this season. Rublev was one of the upcoming talents to watch out for since 2017. Since then he has made it to 10 grand slam quarter-finals and won 15 ATP singles titles. The last season was also turning out great for the 26-year-old prodigy.

Rublev faces 4th consecutive defeat

The Barcelona Open was a chance for Rublev to make a great comeback this season with some wins in the tournament. Rublev was set to play a much lower-seeded American player Brandon Nakashima in the Barcelona Open. What should have been an easy victory for the latter turned out to be a complete disaster. The first set turned out to be disappointing as Nakashima broke his service and took the first set. The second set went on to be a tie-breaker which ended in favour of Nakashima again eliminating Rublev from the tournament completely.

The reaction from Rublev said it all as well as he went on to completely destroy his racket in frustration. This is his 4th consecutive defeat this season right now and it is turning out to be one of his darkest moments in the game. It was not only disappointing to see an otherwise talented player be completely out of depth, but also the reaction of smashing his racket on the court was not really something that we want to see in this wonderful sport. We hope the next tournament sees Rublev make a stunning comeback this season.
