The Madrid Open did give us some iconic matches, but it also gave us some unfortunate ends to some great players in the tournament. There were some players who had to retire during the tournaments, resulting in walkovers during the matches. This was a sad ending for some players who were also favorites to win the tournament and secure an ATP Masters 1000 title to keep their season healthy.

One of the players who has gone through this terrible fate is the world number 2 ranked Italian superstar, Jannik Sinner. Sinner was set to play Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Sadly, he had to retire due to a recurring hip injury which was causing him problems. This has also made his chances to play in the major tournaments even tougher. The fans will at least be hoping that he gets fit enough to play in the upcoming Roland Garros, which would be an opportunity to win his second grand slam.

Sinner opens up on his injury concerns

Sinner has recently opened up about his chances of playing the upcoming tournaments, which include Rome and the French Open, and whether he will recover in time for these events. Sinner has provided clarity in a statement before the tournament, saying, "At Roland Garros, I will only play if I am 100%. If there is any doubt, we have to see. Some injuries can be prevented, some cannot. So far, we have done a great job. Last year, I played a whole season without injuries and also in this season so far." He has also stated that if he does not play any games in Rome, his chances of playing at Roland Garros will also be tough.

This might be heartbreaking for fans, but we still understand why Sinner would want to take some time to recover from his injuries and even risk playing the major grand slam this season. We all want him to play; however, it would be better if we see him play when he is hundred percent fit during the tournament. Everyone will be hoping he gets back to top fitness and at least features in the grand slam, where the fans are eager to see him play.
