Chilean tennis player Fernanda Brito suspended for failing to cooperate in party corruption investigation

Tennis player Fernanda Brito has been suspended by the Tennis Integrity Agency for over six months and is fined $10,000 for failure to cooperate with an investigation under the Tennis Anti-Programme. Notably, the 32-year-old, who had a magnificent career back in 2018 as she went on to achieve a world ranking of 274, failed to comply with a plethora of requests related to an active investigation.

However, according to sources, the International Tennis Integrity Agency had announced that the suspension of high-risk player Fernanda Brito as a part of the investigation was actually linked to match-fixing derivatives. However, she has withdrawn from the activity, but she still sets out to receive the punishment.

Meanwhile, the section of F.2.b reads that the person needs to cooperate fully with investigations carried out by the ITIA, which is an independent body formed by the tennis fraternity to promote, encourage, motivate, improve, and safeguard the integrity of tennis throughout the world. However, Fernanda's suspense began on April 5, 2024, and is set to end on October 4, 2024.

Notably, during this period, the player is unable to participate in playing, training, or attending any tennis events and will not be a part of the ITIA, WTA, Tennis Australia, Wimbledon, USTA, or any national association.

“The ITIA today confirms that Chilean tennis player Fernanda Brito has been suspended for six months and fined $10,000 for failing to cooperate with an investigation under the Anti-Prohibition Program. Tennis Corruption (TACP)," the entity expressed through a declaration.

“She was interviewed by the ITIA in 2023 but did not respond to several follow-up requests for information related to an active investigation. The charges relate to a 2016 match, which Gatica admitted to deliberately losing in exchange for payment. No covered person shall, directly or indirectly, invent or attempt to invent the outcome or any other aspect of an event," the statement reads further.
