There have been plenty of talented tennis players who we have seen as upcoming talents and have risen to the occasion to be one of the best players in the world. These players have even gone on to become one of the best in the world and have one of the most iconic careers in the sport. Unfortunately, there have not been a lot of players that have been that successful and have fallen off from the game completely.

One of these players in this category is 30-year-old Austrian Dominic Thiem. Thiem was one of the upcoming Austrian players who had immense talent. He was known to have one of the most balanced games and could switch from defence to attack when needed. Thiem was set to have a great career ahead of him as he became the world number 3 player in the ATP rankings in 2020 and won his one and only grand slam in the same year beating Alexander Zverev in the US Open. Unfortunately due to injuries Thiem had missed out on many years of tennis and has not been able to even break the top 100 in the ATP rankings.

Thiem to retire

It is always tough to see some tennis players retire and it is even tougher to see them go without reaching the heights they were supposed to reach. It turns out that Thiem has officially announced his retirement this season at the age of 30. For some fans, it is really hard to follow since we all thought the Austrian who had one of the best backhands in the game deserved a much better career. Thiem has been suffering through a terrible wrist injury and has not been able to get back to his peak performance which he has shown earlier. This is truly a sad ending to a career that had a lot of promise.

This might not make some people happy since they wanted the Austrian to make a comeback this season, but we have to also realise it is never easy for a sportsman to retire from the game at all for which he has put a lot of blood, sweat and tears in. We all would not have wanted his career to go down like that, but all we can do is give him props to try and get back to his best and wish him luck for the future.
