The Stuttgart Open is another clay season tournament that has been giving us some great matches with some of the most iconic players featured in the tournament. The likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are some of the top players who are favourites to win the tournament right now. This tournament has already given us plenty of surprises and we could be in for a great WTA tournament.

The quarter-final game between 2022 Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina and top 20 Italian prodigy Jasmine Paolini was something to watch out for. Both these players have had a great tournament at Stuttgart so far. Though the Grand Slam winner was the favourite to win the game, we cannot ignore the fact that the Italian had made it into the quarter-finals after beating a top-ranked and seeded player in Ons Jabeur.

Rybakina gets past the Italian

The first set of the match was enough to show us who the in-form players out of the two were. Rybakina went on to comfortably win the set winning 6 games to 3. With this everyone was expecting the Kazakhstani to give Paolini a complete battering. However the unthinkable happened in the second set as Paolini broke Rybakina’s service at the last minute to make sure she got back in the game winning 7 games to 5. Everyone was hoping for another thrilling third set, but unfortunately, Rybakina came out on top, dominating the second set once again and qualifying for the semi-finals.

This game might have gone longer than expected but throughout the match, everyone knew who was going to win the game going forward. Rybakina once again proved why she was one of the top players in WTA right now where even after losing the second set she still came back stronger and won the game in the end. It was a great effort from the 28-year-old Italian but in the end, she had to succumb to one of the best in the world right now.
