The Munich Open was another clay season tournament that was an opportunity for some talented players to make a mark. After all, this also featured some great players in the making. The knockouts, however, saw some of the favourites to win the trophy such as Alexander Zverev fail to make it through. There is still a chance we get to see some great games in this tournament.

The match between Holger Rune and Jan Lennard Struff was a unique matchup in the tournament. Rune was supposed to be the favourite being the higher-ranking player in the setup, but we cannot ignore the fact that Struff had the home ground advantage as well. We have already seen some surprising exits in this clay season and looking at Struffs performances in this tournament, there was a chance it was going to be tough for the Danish.

Rune faces a disappointing loss

This was supposed to be an opportunity for Rune to get close to the top 10 once again after losing the ranking during the Monte Carlo Masters. This was one of the most disappointing performances from Rune who is considered one of the upcoming talents in the game. Struff had managed to upset the top 20 ranking player in two straight sets with scores of 6-2 in the first and 6-0 in the second. This was a match Rune would like to forget as soon as possible going forward in this season.

With this, we have witnessed another upset in this clay season, where Rune has once again become the victim of underperforming under pressure and makes plenty of unforced errors in the game. For Struff on the other hand it has been a dream tournament for him and he will go into the final against Taylor Fritz hopeful of getting his hands on his first ATP title. He has produced probably one of the biggest upsets in the season so far.
