The clay season is now going into the big leagues and we have just enjoyed a great tournament in the Spanish Capital to the Italian capital in Rome. It will be the start of another ATP Masters 1000 with the Italian Open coming up right now. This will feature some great players and is the last tournament just before the Roland Garros.
Though there will be the likes of Novak Djokovic and some other top players, there are players who will be missing out on this tournament as well. Some of these players have been known to be one of the top contenders in the game and will be missed in this current tournament. We will talk about such players and why they are missing out on the Italian Open.
So, here are the top 5 players who will be missing the Italian Open:
5. Jessica Pegula
Jessica Pegula is one of the most talented players in the game, who has played plenty of Grand Slam playoffs and has been featured in the top 10 as well. It has been a slow start to the season for her, but we still saw her picking up form in the clay season and have been close to even winning some of the tournaments. Unfortunately, she will not be featuring in the Italian Open due to injury which she has revealed on a social media post.
4. Andy Murray
Former world number 1 British superstar Andy Murray was one of the top contenders in tennis who has now fallen off the radar. The 3-time grand slam winner has tried to make a comeback this season but it seems like that the ankle injury in Miami is still causing him problems. We all want to see Murray come back, but it seems like we still have to wait a long time for that to happen as he will be missing the tournaments in Rome.
3. Simona Halep
There was a time when Simona Halep was one of the top players in the WTA and was set to have a growing career. Halep was in the form of her life, unfortunately, the doping ban has caused a lot of problems for the Romanian which made her comeback look tough as well. She was last seen in the Miami Open where she was eliminated in the first round. She had made it clear on social media that she was not ready to play this tournament due to fitness concerns.
2. Jannik Sinner
The Italian superstar Jannik Sinner was having the best season of his life where he won his first grand slam title and was doing well in the ATP tournaments where he won at Rotterdam and Miami. However, there was a tragic injury which will see him out of the tournament in Rome. This is a disappointment for the fans in Italy who were looking forward to seeing the world number 2 perform at home and win his second ATP 1000 title. We will still be hoping that he recovers from the right hip injury and will be fit enough to play in Rome.
1. Carlos Alcaraz
This is probably the biggest miss in Rome as Carlos Alcaraz who just made a comeback in Madrid will be missing out in Rome as well. Alcaraz has been one of the upcoming stars in tennis who has achieved big things in the game in only three years of professional tennis. The Spanish superstar will sadly be missing the Italian Open showing why he is one of the best on clay. It turns out Alcaraz injury still needs time to recover and we will be hoping he makes it to the Roland Garros.
