The qualifiers of the Italian Open are coming to an end and now is the time we get to witness the main draw matches of the tournament. This will currently be the the 94th edition of the ATP tournament which has given us some great performances and has featured some great players with some great performances. With this tournament being almost 100 years we have had a rich history already.

The tournament has been another tournament which is a huge part of the Clay season. It is time to look back at the last 10 beautiful years of this tournament that have given us some great games. Last year's champion was Danill Medvedev who won the final match against Holger Rune. This was one of the rare moments where neither Novak Djokovic nor Rafael Nadal featured in the finals at all. It was Elena Rybakina who won in the Women's singles after Anna Kalinina after retirement.

The last decade of greatness at Rome

The last 10 years of this tournament have been some of the best tennis matches we have ever witnessed in the Clay season. In the 2014 edition, it was Novak Djokovic who won his third title after winning another gruelling final against Rafael Nadal. He was also able to defend his title in the next season as well winning his fourth. The next two years saw two new Italian Open champions with Andy Murray destroying Djokovic's three peat chances and Alexander Zverev getting his dream victory over the World number 1. From there on it has been the Nadal-Djokovic show from 2018 to 2022 showing their dominance and having some great matches against each other. Overall it was only last year where we saw the two heavyweights missed out in the finals.

The Women's division on the other hand saw one of the last few seasons for Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova who were dominating the games since 2011. While Sharapova ended with 3 Italian open champions Williams ended with 4 till 2016. In 2017 and 2018 we saw a young Elina Svitolina win back-to-back titles beating world number 1 Simona Halep in both finals. In 2019 we saw the dominance of Karolina Pliskova winning her first Italian Open. In 2020 we finally saw Simona Halep get her glory in the tournament ruining Pliskova's title defence.

The following year she made the finals again but this time she faced a brutal defeat against Iga Swiatek where she failed to win a single game. Swiatek also went onto defend her title in 2022 beating Ons Jabuer in two straight sets. Though the last year was a disappointing end to a final we saw history being created by Swiatek who in 2021 became the first player to not lose a single game in the final of the tournament. Overall it has been an interesting history filled with exciting games of tennis.
