The Madrid Open is not only competitive for the ATP but for the WTA players as well. This is one of the biggest clay tournaments in the season that we have ever seen. There are a lot of top stars that have been featuring in this tournament for years and there are a lot of great games that are set up. As tennis fans, we like to see these tournaments which set the platform for the upcoming French Open coming up next month.

Though the main draw has started we are yet to get the big matches of the tournament right now. The match between Aryna Sabalenka and 32-year-old Polish player Magda Linette was set for an easy win for Sabalenka who was going into this tournament as the defending champion. Sabalenka is yet to win a singles title after a major grand slam victory at the Australian Open and it is safe to say that this tournament could be the one.

Sabalenka scrapes through second round

Though Linette is still an experienced competitor in the game, she has not had a peak season in her career. It is safe to say that she has been struggling a lot through the years. This was evident in the first set where Sabalenka won it convincingly, winning 6 games to 4. However, Linette out of nowhere surprised the world number 2 ranked player as she went on to get the better of Sabalenka winning 6 games to 3. This was set to be a game that went longer than expected. Fortunately for Sabalenka, she was able to win the last and final set and just about fix her qualification for the next round.

This might have ended up being a victory for Sabalenka, but we have to give props to Linette who made things look difficult for the 2-time grand slam champion. Sabalenka would have had her heart in her mouth at one stage in the match, but finally, she was the one who got the victory and will go on to the next round of the competition and still have hopes to defend her Madrid Open crown this season.
