Tennis star Matteo Berrettini has pulled out of the ongoing Italian Open 2024 due to grave injuries, which forced him to withdraw his name in front of his home fans. Notably, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist has been battling with serious injury problems over the last few years; however, he has made a great comeback on the ATP Challenger Tour and won the Phoenix back in March.

The great player has revealed that he is not in the condition to give his best. He revealed that the tournament was very special to him, and he had tried a lot to be back on the tennis court. The 28-year-old revealed that he will be resting for a few more months to make his comeback soon on the tennis field.

“I'm not ready to perform and to give my best on the court. I tried everything because this tournament was extra special for me. I have to put away my heart [and] use my brain a little bit more. Think about what's most important for me, which is my health and not getting injured again, not being away from the courts for months potentially. It's with a lot of sadness that I have to pull out," Berrettini said.

Meanwhile, Jannick Sinner is already missing out on the chance to play in front of his own crowd, and Matteo's exit from the marquee event is another blow for Italian fans. In addition, top-class player Carlos Alcaraz has also pulled out due to injuries.

“I have to put away my heart, I would say, use my brain a little bit more, and think about what’s most important for me, which is my health and not getting injured again. Just think about this tournament for 2025 and hopefully, nothing is going to happen. Maybe wish that something is going to happen so nothing is going to happen. Extra sad again for me pulling out.," he added further.
