It is always a dream for tennis players to be world number 1 in the rankings. It is always a great achievement to get to that position, but it is even tougher to keep their position as well. There have been plenty of players who have fallen from this position drastically as well. It is surprising to see that these once-in-a-lifetime contenders had a complete downfall in the rankings and are now finding it difficult to get back on top.
One of these players is Japanese player Naomi Osaka who was the number 1 ranked player in 2019 and has 4 grand slams to her name. Unfortunately, Osaka is nowhere near the top-ranked players right now as she has drastically fallen down. After a long hiatus from the game, Osaka has not been in the same consistent form which she was 5 to 6 years ago. There is a lot of work to be done to get back to the top where she has to win some big titles.
Osaka finally wins on clay
Osaka due to her drop in form is currently ranked even out of the top 100 WTA rankings. She made her return on clay against Greet Minen in the first round of the Madrid Open. Osaka has been struggling on clay and has not won a game on the surface since 2022. Thankfully we got to see the same aggressive player we saw years ago in this encounter. Osaka beat the Belgian in two straight sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. This was the first win for her in 726 days since the Madrid Open of 2022.
This was a great start to her season and we hope she gets back to form as soon as possible. These are the dominating games that will keep her in form going forward. This is a proud moment for the 26-year-old talent who showed that she still belongs on the big stage. It will be interesting to see how far her game will go in this tournament and she gets back to playing her best tennis once again.
