Since Nadal has dropped massively in the rankings we could say that he was up against a much younger and higher-seeded player in Flavio Cobolli. However, the first was where we saw a vintage El Nino dominate the first set where he won 6-2 and assured that he kept putting pressure on the inexperienced Italian. The second set was the same story where the king of clay once again got the better of Cobolli winning it with a score of 6-3. This was the perfect return for Nadal after a long break from the game.

This was the perfect way to start the season for Nadal as he beat a much younger and active tennis player in two straight sets. This means that we might be back to seeing the king of clay back to his best after missing out on the game for over 608 days. Nadal will go into the next round with the same confidence and home support which he has received ever since he made his return on the big stage.
