Friday Night Smackdown is set to have a new ring announcer. It is worth noting that the new announcer is being drafted from NXT. In the WWE Drfat 2024, many wrestlers like Ilja Dragunov, Carmelo Hayes, Lyra Valkyria, Kiana James, Dijak, and others got drafted to the main roster. Alicia Taylor joins the list of NXT stars who will be on the main roster for the next year or so.
Shawn Michaels took to X and confirmed that Taylor would be replacing Mike Rome as the new announcer. The Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative of NXT claimed that Taylor is an irreplaceable part of the soundtrack for countless unforgettable moments in NXT. He further thanked Alicia for everything she did for NXT and congratulated her on the upcoming journey.
"An irreplaceable part of the soundtrack for countless unforgettable WWE NXT moments, and now she’s bringing her unending passion to SmackDown. @AliciaTaylorNXT, thank you for everything you’ve brought to the #NXTUniverse… and congratulations on your next step! #WeAreNXT," wrote the WWE Hall of Famer in his social media post. On the 7th of May 2024, Alicia had her last working day for NXT.
'Great things happen to great people' - Shawn Michaels
Taylor joined NXT in December 2018 and has been a regular since April 2019. As Taylor is moving to Smackdown, Mike Rowe will be moving back to NXT for the first time since 2019. Shawn added that parting with the unbelievably talented and incredible person is a hard feeling. Michaels felt that great things happen to great people and claimed Alicia to be a deserving candidate to enter the main roster.
"We are parting away with unbelievably talented, but more important than that incredible and more incredible, genuine human beings. Sometimes great things happen to great people & Alicia here is now, [much deserving] going to the main roster," said Michaels. Alicia reacted to the tweet of Michaels and thanked him and the NXT Universe for the opportunity. She will now be the announcer on Smackdown from the upcoming week.
