Stone Cold Steve Austin was set to be a part of the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania XL. The legend was alleged to have gone face-to-face against The Rock to help Cody Rhodes finish his story. However, he could not turn up and the Undertaker came to the assistance of the American Nightmare. It did not go well with many fans.

Many believed that Stone Cold was the right person to take out the Final Boss, given their history in the attitude era. Back in time, The Rock had a hard time facing Steve Austin in the arena. It became an obvious factor for the fans and experts to believe that the 7-time world champion would interrupt Bloodline and have his say on the result of the match.

As it turned out, Austin did not make it. While the fans were happy with the Deadman, they believed that Steve would have been just the perfect guy. Many wondered why Stone Cold could not make it. Rumors were that he was not totally fit and medically cleared to take part in the event. But the latest sources have a different take on the attitude era star missing out.

Failure of financial agreements

Dave Meltzer, one of the popular Wrestling observers, believed that Austin was actually consulted by WWE to be a part of WrestleMania XL. In the report, Meltzer claimed that a financial agreement was not met by the two parties which led to the Undertaker appearing in the main event. "Austin was the person originally earmarked for that spot," Meltzer felt.

"But in the end, they couldn’t reach a financial agreement and the Undertaker was put in his place," added the Wrestling Observer in his report. On night two of WrestleMania XL, The Rock delivered the Rock bottom to John Cena. The American Badass then came out of nowhere, executed a Choke slam to the final boss, and disappeared. Cody took the advantage and delivered three Cross Rhodes on a trot to finish his story.
