The Undisputed WWE Championship is referred to as the title in which a Superstar is the holder of both world titles. Over the years, the definition of the world title has changed. It has been drastically changing. The WWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, and the Universal Championship are considered as the World Championship. Any Superstar holding both belts at the same time is regarded as the Undisputed World Champion.

The concept was started way back in 2001 when there was no Raw and Smackdown. Due to the enormous amount of talent in the company, a parent roster was formed namely 'Smackdown'. From then on, the world Champions have been a part of different rosters. However, there are instances where a single wrestler held on to both titles at the same time. Some such reigns have been longer as well.

The latest world champions are Cody Rhodes and Damian Priest. The former defeated Roman Reigns on Night Two of WrestleMania XL to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship. As Roman held the only World title in 2023, a workhorse World Title was introduced. The reintroduction of the title saw Seth Rollins as the champion. After being the champion for 316 days, Seth lost to Drew McIntyre, who in turn lost to Priest.

Let us have a look at the five greatest Undisputed Champions in the history of the company:

5. Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan had a terrific match with The Rock in WrestleMania X-8 which was almost like a generation vs a generation. It was the last run of Hogan in WWE and he made sure to prove that even at an old age, he could deliver bangers. One such match was between him and Triple H in Backlash for the Undisputed World Title.

Triple H was the holder of the title. The match was an even clash where neither of them had any advantage. Chris Jericho tried to help Triple H by coming to his assistance. But the Cerebral Assassin refused to take the assistance. Hogan similarly refused the help from The Undertaker. He delivered the iconic Atomic leg drop to clinch a win against Triple H.

4. The Undertaker

The Undertaker

The Undertaker challenged Holk Hogan for the title opportunity after he defeated Triple H at Backlash. In 1991, The Undertaker defeated Hogan in the Survivor Series to claim his maiden WWE Championship. At Judgement Day, it was like a full circle. The American Badass was at his best form while Hogan was towards the fag end of his career.

The match between the two was even-contested. Hogan was on the offensive side and tried to take out the deadman as soon as possible. In between the match, Vince McMahon entered in an attempt to spoil the match. While Hulk delivered the Atomic leg drop, The Undertaker kicked out and later hit him with a steel chair, which eventually led to the Undertaker's win.

3. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho was the maiden Undisputed World Champion. After the WCW/ECW invasion in 2001, both belts remained to be competed. However, the idea of a unified Championship was carried on during the Vengeance 2001. The match was full of chaos. Jericho first defeated The Rock to claim the WCW World Title. Later that night, he was up against Stone Cold.

Steve Austin beat Kurt Angle to become the WWE Champion. The two competed each other for the Undisputed Championship which saw the interruption of several veterans like Angle, The Rock, Ric Flair, Booker T, and Vince McMahon. Booker T took out Austin which helped Jericho to pin the attitude era face to claim the maiden Undisputed World Championship.

2. Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan's title run was surreal. He had to overcome a lot of challenges to become the Undisputed World Champion. Randy Orton held the title after beating John Cena in a TLC match. As Batista won the men's rumble match in 2014, he got an opportunity at the title against the Viper. At the other end, the fans wanted Bryan to get a title run at any cost.

The 'Yes' movement led to an announcement. Daniel was to face Triple H on Night One of WrestleMania 30, and the winner would face Randy and Batista in the triple threat match for the title. Bryan did the unthinkable as he defeated Triple H on Night One and claimed the Undisputed World Championship by getting submission from Batista, all with an injured shoulder.

1. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar in WrestleMania 38's main event. The beast was the Universal Champion then. After beating him, Roman became the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. In the days to come, the title was unified. He held on to the title for 2 years till Cody Rhodes beat him in WrestleMania XL. The Tribal Chief is arguably the greatest Undisputed Champion.

While it is arguable, due to the fact that he did not defend the title regularly, there were a number of wrestlers who became stars from the story. The likes of Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Sami Zayn became major singles contenders. The aura of Roman and the Bloodline was something to marvel at. His title reign was of good story. one to remember for a long time.
