The Chennai Super Kings are having some terrible time in this season. The franchise that only used to float in the top slots in all the seasons so far is stumbling at the last position in the points table. The yellow brigade, which has played all the playoffs, lifted the trophy thrice, is somehow not able to get on the track. The time is running, and nobody knows whether they can still find answers for their shortcomings or not.

For all these years, CSK has enjoyed the greatest level of fandom. Even when they are struggling to do respectable things, people remain on edge of their seats for their match. But this is not the end, now people and fans are also getting vocal on where this team is going wrong. What is it that they are lacking?

Here are 5 most confusing decisions taken by MS Dhoni in IPL 2020:

1. Initially coming lower down the order for batting

When CSK came for its initial fixtures, we saw MS Dhoni coming up as low as the seventh position. Though CSK won the first game against MI, he was very much needed to finish things for the yellow army in their second chase. He again showed up late, and then things were out of control already.

Known as the greatest finisher in the world, people expect no less from him. However, Thala has not been able to make his fans happy with his hits in IPL 2020. Whatever it may be, if he is there on the crease, fans fail to accept defeat at any cost from their beloved skipper.

Though the team is staring at the elimination from this season, fans will still get mad if he creates thunder in just one inning through his bat. It is unsure whether the team goes to playoffs or not, his little more involvement and little intent with the bat can do magic for the team.

2. Persisting with out of form Kedar Jadhav

Kedar Jadhav is having a terrible campaign in this season of IPL. Now it seems like he walks up the field only to make fans and franchise unhappy. Of all the five matches he has played, he averages an underwhelming 20.67 and maintains a strike rate of 93.94.

He is not even able to make a single contribution to his team that he can talk of. In fact, during CSK’s match against KKR, he made a 12-ball 7* to create all the mess. He failed to rotate the strike with Jadeja, who was middling ball well, and the team saw the face of defeat in the match.

The question stands on skipper MS Dhoni. Why is backing him again and again despite having capable youngsters in the lot? It is already too late to mend things, but even if now team can come up with a better set up, fans will at least get to witness some fightback from their favourite franchise.

3. Not giving a long run to youngsters like N. Jagadeesan

MS Dhoni was known for bringing young talents to the team, whether it is the national squad or his franchise Chennai Super Kings. He always backed the youngsters to let them develop on the field. However, some different scenarios came up on the table in IPL 2020.

Young batter N Jagadeesan got the chance to play just one match with the team, where he scored 33 off 28 to lend his support to the team. It can be called a decent score especially when a young player is marking his debut. Sadly, he didn’t get to feature in the team’s playing XI post that.

If the management is backing Kedar Jadhav, who is showing up with one failure after the other, youngsters like Jagadeesan deserve a lot more? In fact, these will the players who need to develop their self before taking up the legacy of this supreme franchise forward.

4. Imran Tahir not yet on the field

Can there be any answers to the question, why ace spinner Imran Tahir has not yet got a place in the playing XI of the team? The purple cap winner of the 2019 IPL season is warming the bench during CSK matches. If the last match was not the time where he should have certainly stepped up, then when will it be?

The team is struggling big time and needs to get everything that can add to its competitive quotient. Firstly, it was said that he was not getting the place because of the balance of the team, and the four best foreigners are already there at the time.

It was said he will join up soon because wickets have started turning in UAE. However, he was still not there in the last match against Rajasthan. The CSK team management needs to do their calculations quickly to get him in the playing XI so that fans can at least see some good spin action.

5. No Replacement of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh

It was a great setback for the team when two of their stars pulled off from IPL 2020 owing to personal reasons. Suresh Raina’s position at number three played a vital role in the team’s strength, and his absence has been felt big time. He was called Mr. IPL for a reason as he remained stunning while plying his trade in the cash-rich league.

Despite his absence, CSK never got a suitable replacement at the number three position. The number three spot couldn’t see anything worth, and that’s how it kept going. Also, to talk of veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh, even his replacement was not found by the management.

The team kept switching between what they had and what they felt would work for them. However, the series of failures has posed innumerable questions on the second most successful franchise of the IPL league. The loyal fan base would wait till the last match of CSK to enjoy some quality cricket from their end.
