MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings have had a shaky ride so far in their IPL 2020 journey. Since their arrival in the UAE, the Yellow Army has been suffering multiple blows. The franchise was first jolted after their 13 members tested positive for coronavirus. To plunge more misery, two of their experienced campaigners– Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh— decided to pull out from the tournament owing to personal reasons.
Galloping over all the hurdles, the Chennai side had an impressive start to their tournament as they defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi. Ambati Rayudu, the Player of the Match, stitched a vital 48-ball 71 to guide them to the victory.
However, due to a hamstring strain, the right-hander was sidelined from the next two games where CSK suffered thumping defeats. While chasing on both the occasions, CSK fizzled out to pressure and fell short of the target. CSK first suffered a 16-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals, followed by a 44-run loss versus Delhi Capitals.
One of the most consistent sides of the IPL, CSK have found going tough till now in the tournament. However, their sorrows are expected to decrease after the return of Rayudu. According to reports, Ambati Rayudu, as well as Dwayne Bravo, are set to pave their way into CSK’s Playing XI in their next game.
We have bounced back from adversity in the past: CSK CEO
“Rayudu has recovered well from a hamstring strain and will play in the next game. He ran and sprinted during training and batted without any discomfort at the nets,” CSK CEO K.S. Viswanathan told Sportstar on Monday.
The CSK CEO also revealed that Bravo has recovered from the thigh injury which had kept him away from bowling. “He bowled well at the nets. We have bounced back from adversity in the past. We will do so again,” he said.
After suffering consecutive defeats, Viswanathan had recently also stated that it would be impossible for the franchise to bring back Suresh Raina into the side. He had said that the CSK vice-captain had made himself unavailable and the management has to respect his decision and space.
“See, we cannot look at Raina because he made himself unavailable and we respect his decision and his space. We are not thinking about it,” he had said. Eyeing their second victory of the tournament, CSK are slated to lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Dubai International Stadium on 2nd October.
