Caribbean Premier League (CPL) that was started back in 2013 has witnessed lots and lots of big moments during its reign and it is currently in its 6th successive season. On Thursday though every fan witnessed a terrifying incident in a match between Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Zouks. It took away the breath of everyone while Andre Russell was batting.
The incident took place in the 14th over of the match. Russell till then had faced 2 balls and was still waiting for his account of runs to get opened. On the 5th delivery of the over, the West Indies all-rounder failed to connect the short ball bowled by Hardus Viljoen which struck on his helmet near the right ear.
It appeared that there was no neck guard on the batsman’s helmet and the impact was so bad that he fell on the field at the very moment. After this, all the Zouks fielders then came to remove his helmet and Russell was then taken for the scan. In the meantime, physio was seen on the ground for medical assistance.
Andre Russell rather got up soon after getting hit but fell on the ground again which increased concerns among fans and the players. The sight at that moment looked quite scary. It gave a flashback of an incident that took place in 2014 where the Australian Cricketer Phil Hughes passed away due to a severe bouncer which struck his head near the right ear exactly where Russell got hit.
Russell ruled out of the remainder of the season
After the blow, the West Indies all-rounder was stretchered off the field. Later, in a medical update, the franchise confirmed that the star all-rounder hadn’t suffered a serious injury but was ruled out of the remainder season of CPL 2019.
Currently, Jamaica Tallawahs are on the last position with 3 direct losses in 3 matches which puts them in a tough situation. They are struggling to finish the drought of win. Last night Jamaica Tallawahs put up a score of 170 in 20 over’s, which the St Lucia Zouks chased down the total with 20 balls to spare.
