Jofra Archer, the young English bowler has rapidly become one of the most exciting young bowlers in World cricket. In the Ashes, his fiery spells became a major headache for Australia’s batsmen. He set the urn on a blaze with 22 wickets in the series. Archer made his Test debut in the second game at Lord’s, where he bowled with steam and finished the series with two five-wicket-hauls.
After the conclusion of Ashes, Ben Stokes appreciated the performances of the youngster in recent times. The 24-year-old shot to limelight after playing an integral role in England’s maiden World Cup win in June-July. After that he unleashed his pace against the mighty Aussies and kept them on their toes throughout the four Test matches he played in the Ashes.
Ben Stokes feels Jofra Archer is very talented
Stokes believes Jofra Archer to be the most talented fast bowler he has seen, who can help England regain the Ashes in 2021-22. Archer looks set to lock down his first central contract in this summer. “I don’t think I’ve seen a more talented bowler in my time. It’s great to have him on your team. No doubt he is the sort of guy who can help get those Ashes back when we go down under (in 2021-22),” Stokes said as quoted by The Guardian.
Furtherly, the English vice-captain went on to compare Jofra with Pat Cummins who is currently holding the 1st position in the ICC Test ranking for the bowlers and is expecting the Barbados-born player to improve in the times to come.“It is very rare for a 24-year-old to be able to come in, be exposed to this environment and then step up and improve game by game as quickly as Jof is doing it. There is plenty more to come from him because he is so skilful and picks things up so quickly,” Stokes added.
England will now travel to New Zealand for five T20Is and two Test matches in late October, but it looks like the multi-format bowler will be given some rest after a hectic long summer which included big tournaments like 2019 World Cup and Ashes.
