The 11th game of IPL 2020, SRH vs DC was a low scoring affair. Both the teams have one of the strongest bowling line-ups in the tournament and their star bowlers stole the show. Sunrisers put up a decent total of 162 and the Delhi Capitals failed to chase it down as Rashid Khan showed his master class with the ball to pick up three wickets.
While batting first, SRH came with a different approach this time in a quest to find their first win in the tournament. They also had the services of Kane Williamson which made their batting relatively stronger. Kagiso Rabada was the star with the ball for DC as he picked two wickets and bowled very economically. It is DC’s first loss and in their 15-run defeat, they have several positives but there were some mistakes they would not like to repeat.
Here are the 3 mistakes committed by Delhi Capitals in Match 11, SRH vs DC:-
1. Batting second on a slow pitch
Delhi Capitals’ skipper, Shreyas Iyer elected to bowl first as he didn’t want his bowlers to bowl in the second half because of the dew factor. However, this decision turned out to be a catastrophe as the pitch became extremely slow in the second half. SRH’s strike bowler, Rashid Khan utilized the slow and turning pitch and picked three wickets. Also, the run-scoring became quite difficult as the ball became old and DC failed to chase an average target.
2. Not bowling out Axar Patel’s overs
Axar Patel has been one of the most economical bowlers for DC in IPL 2020. His ability to bowl tight line and length has been one of the most significant reasons for Delhi’s successful run this time. However, Captain Iyer decided to bowl Marcus Stoinis some extra overs and didn’t bowl Patel after his first two overs.
The pitch was turning and helpful for the spinners and with all right-handers out there, Axar should have been the go-to bowler for Iyer. If Patel would have dismissed Jonny Bairstow or Kane Williamson with his tight control, SRH would have ended up at a total below 150 runs.
3. Losing early wickets
With the pitch getting slower with each ball, DC batsmen should have kept some wickets to attack SRH bowlers in the middle overs. As they lacked an experienced finisher in their ranks, a set batsman from the top order would have been ideal for them. However, DC lost two important wickets early on, including Iyer, their skipper, and one of the most dependable batsman. With wickets keep on falling and pitch getting slower, DC was left behind in the run chase and SRH won the game with a margin of 15 runs.
