Javed Miandad and Imran Khan are known as two of the greatest former stars of Pakistan cricket. With their amazing match-winning ability and tremendous experience, they earned their country an unlikely World Cup in 1992. Khan is known as one of the best captains the sport has ever seen and Miandad was popular for his unconventional style of captaincy.
Both the stalwarts played a lot of games together, but recently Miandad had slammed Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, for harming the country’s cricket system by appointing the wrong people and altering the domestic cricket administration. Miandad also accused Imran of playing dirty politics in the country and denounced his leadership as Pakistan’s PM.
But, now the former skipper has apologized for his comments on the World Cup-winning captain. Interestingly, the apology came after his nephew, Faisal Iqbal, also a former Pakistan cricketer, was appointed as one of the domestic coaches.
While speaking to ARY News, Miandad said, “If I have offended anyone, I apologize for my words, especially to the Prime Minister because I was angry about Pakistan’s performance in the first Test against England. I have full respect for the Prime Minister and Pakistan cricket fans all over the world.”
Javed Miandad had criticized Khan for not appointing right people in Pakistan cricket
Pakistan’s defeat in the first Test against England was highly condemned by a number of cricket pundits. The game was in the touring team’s favour when England, the home team, was chasing 277 and were struggling at 117-5. Jos Butler and Chris Woakes then put up a match-winning partnership which led the Brits to a thrilling win.
A lot of former players, including Miandad, criticized the team and the management. Azhar Ali’s defensive captaincy during the crucial partnership only added some salt to his overseas batting bruises. After the game, Miandad slammed Khan and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not managing the cricket operations well.
“All officials in the PCB do not know the ABC of the sport. I will talk to Imran Khan personally about the sad state of affairs. I will not leave anyone that is not right for our country. You appointed a foreigner on a key position. What will happen when he flees the country after doing corruption? Is there a shortage of people in your own country that you had to bring people from abroad to work on the PCB,” The former captain had said on his Youtube channel.
