Mushfiqur Rahim, the Bangladesh cricketer, has named MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper, as his idol. The 38-year-old Dhoni has led the Men in Blue in 200 ODIs, helped India win the 20111 World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup, and also garnered numerous laurels in Test cricket. Mushfiqur reckons that captains around the world can look up to Dhoni for inspiration.
The 33-year-old Mushfiqur believes that Dhoni’s sixth sense and cricketing senses are unparalleled compared to the others. The 33-year-old mentioned that he didn’t have an idol in particular before he witnessed Dhoni’s journey at the highest level.

“I’m fond of Dhoni’s captaincy. I believe his name should be there amongst the all-time greatest captains. He has an excellent sixth sense and can effectively make predictions about what’s in store. His cricketing sense is also outstanding. As a captain, Dhoni has a great win percentage as well,” Mushfiqur was quoted as saying in Business Standard.
“There’s no major tournament that he hasn’t won. He is a skipper I like very much. Earlier I said that I didn’t have an idol. But now you can call Dhoni as my idol. Captains around the world can look up to him for inspiration,” he added.
Dhoni is set to turn 39 a couple of weeks later and is well and truly at the fag end of his career. He last played in the 2019 edition of the World Cup where Martin Guptill ran him out in the semi-final at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Ever since then, he hasn’t played competitive cricket.
As far as Mushfiqur is concerned, he is one of the legendary figures in Bangladesh cricket. He is presently the leading run-scorer in Test cricket and has the highest individual score for the Tigers in the format. Mushfiqur has also gotten a fair taste of captaincy at the highest level.
He has led in 34 Tests, 37 ODIs and 23 T20Is. However, he was axed as the skipper after the tour of South Africa in 2017. Earlier this year, he captained the Khulna Tigers to the final of the Bangabandhu BPL where they lost to Andre Russell’s Rajshahi Royals.
