Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant will not travel to Rajkot with the Indian team to play the 2nd ODI against Australia. The wicket-keeper from Delhi had suffered from concussion after being hit on the helmet while batting in the series opener at the Wankhede Stadium. He did not even come out to keep the wickets for the Men in Blue as KL Rahul donned the gloves behind the stumps.
As per the latest report, Rishabh Pant has kept under observation in Mumbai after suffering a concussion. BCCI had informed about the same via a tweet that Pant had suffered a concussion because of Pat Cummins’ short-pitched delivery which hit him on the head. To make matters worse, Pant also lost his wicket on the same delivery.
Rishabh Pant to join the team later
A BCCI source mentioned that the Delhi Capitals player will not travel to Rajkot along with the Indian team. However, he also informed that Pant will join the team later. “Rishabh Pant will not be travelling to Rajkot today with other members. He will join the team later. Normally 24 hours is the time to keep someone who has suffered concussion under observation.” the source was quoted as saying by Times of India.
As the left-handed batsman had picked up the concussion last evening, he is expected to be monitored till tonight. And, if cleared, he would then join the team in Rajkot. India suffered a 10-wicket loss in the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium. The Indian batsmen put up a decent show but the Australian openers, Aaron Finch and David Warner completely tore apart from the Men in Blue’s bowling attack.
Australia will now look to seal the series when they play the 2nd ODI at the Saurashtra Cricket Association in Rajkot. Australian captain Aaron Finch has a good idea about the wicket having played for the Rajkot-based Gujarat Lions in the IPL. As far as Rishabh Pant’s health is concerned, the team might not risk him in the 2nd ODI if he is not 100 percent fit.
He is the team’s first-choice keeper and KL Rahul might be allowed to keep the wickets while Kedar Jadhav or Manish Pandey could replace Pant in the batting line-up.
