The Round 5 match in the Elite Group A of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 will be played between Hyderabad and Kerala at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur.
The match starts at 9:00 AM local time (IST) (3:30 AM GMT)
Hyderabad didn’t have luck on their side in the first two matches in the Elite Group A of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20. The games versus Karnataka and Goa at the KSCA Stadium in Alur got abandoned due to rain. However, at the same venue, the team, captained by Ambati Rayudu got to play its first encounter against Saurashtra, who opened their account with a win over Kerala.
The likes of Tanmay Agarwal and Tilak Verna got runs while Ambati Rayudu, making a comeback, got out on 17. On the other hand, the Robin Uthappa-led Kerala, lost their previous game by three wickets after the match was reduced to 34 overs per side in Alur. Their openers got the runs and even the bowlers did reasonably. However, Arpit Vasavada’s 92 robbed them off a victory.
The conditions aren’t something positive by any stretch of the imagination. It will be overcast and the sun won’t be out at any stage of the day. At 10 PM, there is a chance of a thunderstorm and the heavens may open up. Hence, there could again be a delayed start if not an abandoned match in Alur. The humidity will be in the 60s and 70s with the temperature around the 27 degrees Celsius.
The first two matches in Alur in the ongoing tournament were won by the team, batting second. But both games were curtailed due to rain. The same could happen even in Sunday’s encounter. It could make the equation clearer for the chasing sides. Both Hyderabad and Kerala have some quality batters in their ranks and should be better off, opting to field first after winning the toss.
Average first innings score: 230 (Vijay Hazare Trophy matches in 2018/19 season)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 6, Lost – 2
