India pacer Navdeep Saini has risen to fame in the last couple of years. He has troubled the best of the batsmen with pace. He has played 2 Tests, 7 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India and was part of the historic win for the team down under earlier this year. He delivered when the team needed him and is well on his way to becoming the all-format specialist.
However, the road to glory wasn’t easy for Navdeep Saini either and it took a lot of hard work for him to make it to the national team. Interestingly, despite not playing at the moment, the fast bowler is currently in the headlines thanks to his seven-year-old comment on Sreesanth on Facebook.
On 4th June 2013, he had posted a picture with the trophy and the fans were delighted to see his rise. They were lauding him in the comments section and this is when, one of the fans called him Junior Sreesanth. Replying to this, Saini stated that he doesn’t want to become Sreesanth and aspires to be like Brett Lee. “Bhai mujhe nahi banna Sreesanth, mujhe Brett Lee banna hai,” his reply read.
Here’s the comment:
Sreesanth, along with Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, was arrested on spot-fixing charges only a few weeks ago during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The trio was playing for the Rajasthan Royals led by Rahul Dravid and the accusations had left the cricketing fraternity shocked. However, they were released later and the charges on them were also lifted.
Sreesanth has now made a comeback
BCCI then reduced to Sreesanth’s ban as well and the pace bowler is currently playing for his state team Kerala in the ongoing domestic season. He got emotional as well after picking up his first wicket on a comeback and fared decently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well. But unfortunately, no franchise showed interest in the 38-year-old and went unsold.
Sreesanth is currently featuring in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and is the highest wicket-taker for Kerala. He has so far picked 13 wickets in five matches including a five-wicket haul. It remains to be seen if the pacer reacts to Navdeep Saini’s viral comment or if the latter gives any explanation for his old comment on Facebook.
