Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has left everyone surprised with its recent activity on social media platforms. The Bengaluru-based outfit has surprisingly removed its profile picture and posts from various social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The Royal Challengers have also deleted their photos from Instagram. Their official page on the popular photo-sharing platform shows 0 posts as of Wednesday afternoon. And their weird activity has not only sent the fans in a frenzy but also their players. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and AB de Villiers expressed their surprise over the turn of events on Wednesday.
And on Thursday, their skipper Virat Kohli also joined the bandwagon as he too was left wondering what was happening. The Royal Challengers skipper took to Twitter to write that he was utterly surprised with the turn of events on social media. In a cheeky manner, he also said that the franchise should have informed him before deleting the posts, writing: “Posts disappear and the captain isn’t informed. @rcbtweets, let me know if you need any help.”

According to reports, the reason behind the Royal Challengers’ latest action on social media is that they are set to change their names ahead of the upcoming season. Media reports suggest that the franchise will be re-christened to Royal Challengers Bengaluru from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Meanwhile, the franchise’s actions come a day after it signed Muthoot Fincorp as the title sponsor for IPL 2020.
The three-time finalists, on Tuesday, announced a three-year partnership with Muthoot Fincorp Ltd, a part of the Muthoot Pappachan Group, popularly known as Muthoot Blue, a diversified conglomerate in the financial services industry. The Virat Kohli-led side will be hoping that their long wait for a maiden IPL trophy ends this year.
The Royal Challengers have been one of the worst-performing teams in recent years. After finishing as runners-up in IPL 2016, their performances in the following seasons have been far from impressive. They finished last in 2017, 6th in 2018 and once again last in 2019. But just like the previous seasons, they have one of the strongest squads on paper once again and would be looking to end their title drought.
