Virat Kohli had a great year as a batsman as well as the skipper of Team India leaving the World Cup 2019 upset aside. He has been scoring runs in a consistent fashion for the national team and is regarded as a role model for the youth. However, after a successful year, the former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has compared the Indian skipper with Imran Khan, who is known as one of the best skippers that Men in Green has ever produced in its cricketing history.
The 31-year-old Indian cricketer has turned into a run machine for Team India, who ended as the leading scorer in white-ball cricket in this concluding year. Under his leadership, his side won back to back series against West Indies, South Africa and Bangladesh. The biggest feat that Kohli achieved this year was the Test series win in Australia that India had never won its overall cricket history. However, one of the main reason behind his success is his fitness and the right-hand batsman is very serious about it.
Shoaib Akhtar feels Virat Kohli is a fitness freak
Shoaib Akhtar said that Kohli is a fitness freak and is a perfect example for other players in the team. If a skipper of the team is so agile and fit then the side will obviously follow him in order to raise their standards. He also added the fact that the same thing used to be there in the Pakistan cricket team when Imran Khan was the skipper. However, it was compulsory for all the players to follow his strict fitness schedule.
As per the former pacer, Imran Khan was not very tactical skipper but he knew how to gather match-winners in the team. And, now Team India is doing the same, who have a strict scenario for the players to follow on and off the field.
“Virat Kohli is a fitness freak and his team completely looks up to him. If the captain is agile and sets such standards, the side will obviously follow. I believe this thing used to be there in our side when Imran Khan was the captain. He came to the ground, did not listen to anyone, used to run ten laps around, take 20-25 sprints. He then bowled in the nets for three hours. It was compulsory for the rest of the players to come and do the same.
“Imran Khan was not a tactical captain, but he knew how to gather match-winners. Now India is doing the same, see Kohli’s attitude, he plays with a lot of intensity, the players follow the captain. India has strict rules to ensure players’ conduct both on and off the field,” Akhtar said in a video of his YouTube Channel.
