Kings XI Punjab completed a hat-trick in victories in IPL 2020 to keep their chances of making it to the playoffs alive. Shikhar Dhawan continued from where he left against CSK as he smashed yet another unbeaten century. Dhawan scored 106 from 61 balls with 15 boundaries but Delhi Capitals posted only 164/5. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got out cheaply but aggressive intent by Nicholas Pooran (53 off 28) and Chris Gayle (29 off 13) made the chase look easy by bringing down the required rate under six.
Here are all the statistical highlights from Kings XI Punjab’s 5-wicket win during KXIP vs DC:
Dhawan creates new history in IPL:
1 – Shikhar Dhawan is now the first player in Indian Premier League history to smash centuries in successive matches/innings. Dhawan scored 101* during the previous against CSK which was also his maiden hundred in the T20 format. Shikhar is also only the 9th player in Twenty20 cricket to score hundreds in consecutive innings.
2 – Dhawan is now the 2nd player to smash multiple hundreds in the IPL for Delhi franchise. David Warner struck two tons for the Delhi Daredevils in 2010 and 2012. Dhawan is also the 5th player after Chris Gayle (2 in 2011), Virat Kohli (4 in 2016), Hashim Amla (2 in 2017) and Shane Watson (2 in 2018) to hit multiple tons during an IPL edition.
5044 – Shikhar Dhawan became the 5th player to amass 5000 runs in the IPL when he got past his individual score of 62 during KXIP vs DC. Dhawan is the 3rd fastest to the milestone as he needed only 168 innings to get there.
Dhawan’s lone-man effort:
14 – The 2nd highest individual score during Delhi Capitals’ inning in KXIP vs DC was only 14 runs by Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. This makes Shikhar Dhawan’s ton the first in IPL where no other batsman scored even 15 runs. The previous 2nd lowest individual score in an inning during an IPL hundred was 16 when Sanath Jayasuriya smashed an unbeaten ton while chasing for MI vs CSK in 2008.
164/5 – Delhi Capitals’ total of 164/5 is the lowest first innings total in the IPL to involve an individual century. The previous lowest was 170/4 by RCB against Deccan Chargers in 2009 when Manish Pandey scored an unbeaten 114*.
A rare match award in losing cause:
14 – Shikhar Dhawan became only the 14th player in the history of IPL to win a player of the match award despite ending up on the losing side. Yuvraj Singh is the only player to win two such awards.
Dhawan is also the 2nd player to win MoTM despite ending on losing side for the Delhi franchise. Chris Morris won the match award by scoring an unbeaten 82 and picking up two wickets for the Delhi Daredevils in the 2016 season during a 1-run defeat against Gujarat Lions.
Tushar’s tough day at the office:
20.5 – Tushar Deshpande had an economy rate of 20.5 during KXIP vs DC for his 0/41 in two overs; the worst economy rate in an IPL inning for Delhi franchise. (Min: 2 overs bowled) The previous worst was 18 by Avesh Khan who got hit for 36 runs in two overs during the 2018 edition match against RR.
Tushar’s economy is also the joint 2nd worst for any player in an IPL game behind 22.5 of Ali Murtaza who conceded 45 runs in his two overs during Chris Gayle’s 175* in 2013. Sumit Narwal (RR vs CSK in 2010) and Karanveer Singh (KXIP vs RCB in 2015) also went at an economy of 20.5 in an IPL game for conceding 41 runs in two overs.
Pant’s field day behind the wickets:
18 – Rishabh Pant now has claimed 18 catches in the IPL during the bowling of Kagiso Rabada; the most number of dismissals for any bowler-fielder combination in the league. The duo went past the 16 dismissals of Harbhajan Singh-Kieron Pollard and Amit Mishra-Rishabh Pant.
51 – Rishabh Pant has completed 50 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in the IPL during KXIP vs DC; all of them for Delhi Daredevils/Capitals only. He is now the 8th wicketkeeper with 50 dismissals in the IPL and also the first to do so while representing Delhi franchise.
